OAK HILL, WV (WVNS) — Monuments Across Appalachian Places (MAAP) is partnering with West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service and is seeking participants in a free workshop.
Virginia Tech has been awarded a $5 million Mellon Foundation grant to support Monuments Across Appalachian Virginia, an initiative to document, reinterpret, display, and amplify histories and experiences that highlight collective struggles in Appalachian communities, especially those stories that have been hidden, silenced, denied, or excluded.
On the first floor of Newman Library stands a brightly colored arcade-game structure made of painted wood and technology. Unlike the simple entertainment of Pac-Man or Donkey Kong of old, the purple, pink, and teal structure holds the door to an adventure in digital humanities research.
